January February News 2010

January February News 2010

January and February have been quite busy months promoting the new album “If I Knew Then”.

It was good to see everyone down at the Robin 2 in Bilston when we were with the Steve Gibbons Band, what a night that was!

Thanks to those of you who tuned into the Mick Smith show on BBC Radio Nottingham on the 26th Jan. We had a great time as usual with Mick and he has asked us back to do another show with him at the end of April so watch out for his show (every Tuesday night 7.00 to 9.00pm). We are also on BBC Radio Sheffield with Allan Watkiss on Sunday 6th June at 4.45pm, and we’ll be doing a live performance during the next 6 months for Lincoln Radio apparently from the top of Lincoln Cathedral!

Thanks also those of you who listened into the Hermitage Radio station with John Sketchley who will be hosting the Picnic in the Park event this year. Don’t forget to put that date in your diary – June 27th. We are performing in the afternoon but the time is yet to be confirmed.

We have also had a great review in the Maverick Country magazine in Feb which read….

An exciting album with a catchy variety of songs

Beginning with a slow build-riff, this new album bursts into life approximately six seconds into the opening track and only disappoints at the end- when you realize the record’s finished. Blues-infused boogies like Shooter’s Last Ride and the 1970’s-style rock of Taking Me Out Tonight, through delicate, acoustic ballads like Dream Of You, The Way You Are and Live Forever, make this a sterling body of work which makes a strong showcase of what must be an exciting live act.

Travellin’ Man Blues is a rockin’ life-on-the-road anthem, while Sucking Down Air is an impressive cross between Pink Floyd and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Imagine that. Days Like These is another such foot-tapper backed with a catchy acoustic guitar, while the closing six minute epic Worn Out Blues is the kind of pleasingly poetic lament which can only be found at the end of an album. Down to earth, blue-collar lyrics and good musicianship make this a record to put on repeat.

Maverick Feb 2010

Watch out for a review in Blues Matters magazine and also Country Music People who will also be doing a review.

Listen in to www.ukcountryradio.com as we are being played 6 times a day at the moment on this online radio station and you can buy the new CD from their shop and of course from our website www.annduggan.co.uk

We are doing some work to the website to change some of the content so make sure that you take dates of the forthcoming gigs in case something silly happens to the website while all this is going on!

We had a great night at the Corner Pin on the 20th Feb and have some great gigs coming up (including – The Crown Inn, Telford 11th March, The Prince of Wales, Birmingham 28th March amongst others) All the dates are on the website.

We are taking the music out to as many places as we can across the country so keep an eye on the newsletter page and the Blog when it gets up and running to keep up to date with what we are doing.

As always we love to see you at the gigs

Love and Best Wishes

Annie Duggan Band: If I Knew Then …

Annie Duggan Band: If I Knew Then …

With such a reliable following, an established live reputation, and three well-received albums already under their belt, The Annie Duggan Band could well be forgiven for sticking to what they know and do best. “If I Knew Then…”, however, makes no such assumptions. While 2005’s “One for the Road” saw their trademark hi-energy folk-blues take on a pronounced roots rocking style, this new collection moves closer to a purer country sound with an undeniable Nashville feel. This is immediately evident in Annie’s own lead vocals, less urgent and consequently more measured and mature than before, and in the sterling work of newly recruited rhythm section Alan Shotter and Gordon Taylor, who lay down a backbeat which combines dependability with both flexibility and subtlety. Eight of the eleven tunes featured are courtesy of accomplished in-house songsmith Colin Granger, including “Ain’t That A Shame” and “Travellin’ Man Blues”, reworked wholesale from their original versions on the debut disc. Stand-outs however include a moving cover of the Billy Joe Shaver ballad “Live Forever”, and drummer Taylor’s “Dream of You” featuring a highly effective violin cameo from Kerrie Vernon. As ever Rob Hine’s guitar work is outstanding throughout, jangling with flashes of Johnny Marr-like lyricism on the slower numbers and soaring away heroically as the momentum gathers on hard rocking live favourite “Sucking Down Air”. Recorded in Wales with Groundhog Dave Anderson this fourth collection is probably the most stylistically mature and musically accomplished the band have produced to date.

Band Update

BAND UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who has bought our CD and thanks for the great feedback from you all, we are so pleased that you like it.
People are now asking where we are playing next year as we have not put the dates on the gig list yet. We are asking everyone to be patient as we are working hard to pull everything together so that we can get all the publicity done around the dates that we are working.

At last I am trying to be a little more organized and of course this takes more time in the end. We are all looking forward to Christmas and having some time with our families before we start again. We all hope that you all have a great Christmas and a very good New year too and look forward to seeing you on one of the gigs!

News Update

Hi everyone

Well we are winging our way towards another end of year and what a year it has been!
We have been asked on numerous occasions, when were we going to bring out another CD. It wasn't something that I was thinking about doing myself but we found the right studio and engineer in the middle of Wales and the rest so they say is history.

The new CD will be available at the launch on the 7th of November 2009 at the MUSICIAN. We are very pleased with the end result and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.

We do hope that you will be able to join us for what is guaranteed to be a good night out.
Callam is going to try to join us for the celebrations and a lot of people are celebrating birthdays as well!!

We will be Touring out the new album in the New Year so hope that you can meet up with us on one of those gigs if you can't make it on the 7th.

ANNIE x
